Roberta J (VerHaeghe) Failon

Roberta Jean Hansen Failon, 82 of East Moline passed away on Saturday, December 31, 2022, at Genesis Medical Center Illini Campus.

A funeral service will be Noon on Friday, January 6, 2023, at Homewood EFC Church in Moline.  Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time.  Burial will be at Moline Memorial Park.  Memorials may be made to the family.

Roberta was born on January 7th, 1940, in Moline the daughter of Leon and Anna Root VerHaeghe.  She graduated from Moline High School and later from the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago.  She earned her RN degree and worked as a nurse for years at Illini Hospital in Silvis as she raised her three sons.

She married Erling Hansen on May 13, 1967, in Moline until his death in November of 2002.  She married Roger Failon on September 4, 2004.

She was a charter member of Homewood Church in Moline where she served faithfully in many ministries up until the last weeks of her death, including AWANA, Vacation Bible School and the 50 plus group.  She used her gifts of creativity and decoration at home for many family get togethers and at the church for so many events.  She was a Maltese dog breeder for years and adored her furry friends and all of God’s animal creatures.  Roberta had a special love for the “underdog”, those who were broken or in need.  She was the hands and feet of Jesus, helping “the least of these”.  Roberta was a loving mother and grandmother and a faithful prayer warrior.  She loved Jesus and Jesus loved her.  She did her best to live a life honoring to Him.

She will be missed by loving husband, Roger Failon of East Moline; sons, Alan (Andrea) Hansen of Moline, Joel (Diane) Hansen of Moline and Cory (Wanjiku) Hansen of Hurst, TX; grandchildren, Morgan, Calvin, Kelly, Reid, Ella, Noah, Nate, Glory, Kwamboka and Kiniaru; great grandchild, Stevie Jean; sister, JoAnne Whitmore, Silvis; niece, Sherri Thompson, Silvis.

She was preceded in death by Erling and her parents.
