Rodney (Rod) Blaske, 82, of Moline, passed away Thursday, October 8, 2015, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Visitation is Wednesday, Oct 14, from 10:00 to 11:30 at Esterdahl Mortuary, 6601 - 38th Ave., Moline, with a memorial service at 11:30, and burial immediately following at Rock Island National Cemetery with military honors.
Rod was born in Oshkosh, WI, to William O. Blaske and Eugenia Klotz Blaske. He attended Wartburg College, Waverly, IA, for 3 years studying for the ministry. He then joined the Air Force in 1955, serving three years at March Air Force Base, CA. After his service, Rod returned to Wisconsin and graduated from the University of Wisconsin with degrees in English and Psychology. He later earned a Master's degree in Professional Management.
Rod's government civil service career in Supply Management began in Toledo, Ohio, for one year; then Toole, Utah, for two years, and finally the Rock Island Arsenal, retiring in 1990.
He enjoyed traveling, attending Broadway musicals, and golfing with his 3 buddies--Earl Bennett, Bob Johnson, and Zeke Isais. He once had a hole-in-one. He loved growing flowers and gardening with his cat Winnie sitting by his side.
Survivors include his loving wife of 25 years, Kathleen Ragan Snapp; daughters, Bonnie (Mrs. Steve) Osterman, AZ; Shannon (Mrs. Terry) Driver, WA; Andrea Stout Weekley, Coal Valley, IL; Heather (Mrs. John) Stark, Coralville, IA; son, Kristoffer Stout, Cedar Falls, IA; granddaughter, Amanda Osterman; and grandson, Bradley Osterman. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Gilbert, and his sister-in-law LaRue.
