Roger Carrol Vickroy, 88, of Sherrard, IL, died June 4, 2017, at home.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 8, 2017, at Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd., 1301 4th Street, Orion, IL. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 7, 2017, at the funeral home. Cremation rites have been accorded and burial of cremains will be at Western Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Orion Christian Church.
Roger was born on March 14, 1929, in Moline, IL, the son of Charles and Thelma Boothe Vickroy. He married Bev J. Whitesides on December 27, 1950, in Port Byron, IL. From 1967 to 1974, he worked as a missionary in South Africa, which he continued to support for 40 years. He worked for Deere & Co., retiring as a Production Engineer on June 1, 1987.
Roger was a veteran, having proudly served in the Unites States Army. He was a member of Orion Christian Church. Roger especially enjoyed going out for breakfast every morning, vacationing in Florida, and watching his grandchildren enjoy the lake. His greatest love was taking photos in the bush of Africa.
Survivors include his wife, Bev Vickroy; children, Linda (Ron) Over, Preemption, IL, Dr. Patricia A. Vickroy, Orion, IL, and Diane (Jim) Welborn, Orion, IL; grandchildren, Jude, Azure, Aaron, and Chantal; 10 great grandchildren; 14 great great grandchildren.
