Roland Gross, 82, of East Moline, IL, died Sunday, April 3, 2016, at Genesis Medical Center – Silvis Campus, Silvis, IL.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 8, 2016, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 7, 2016, at the funeral home. Per his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and inurnment will be at National Cemetery at the Rock Island Arsenal. Memorials may be made to his family.
Roland was born on September 26, 1933, in Davenport, IA, the son of Albert and Mary Schmeil Gross. He married Marcella Theresa Stuttgen on November 30, 1957, in Minneapolis, MN. He was a member of the Teamsters Union and worked as a truck driver for ABF Freight.
Roland was a veteran, having proudly served as a Corporal in the United States Army from June of 1953 until May of 1955. He was a member of the American Legion
Roland loved telling stories and jokes, westerns, and casino bus trips. He especially loved spending time with his family and seeing his grandchildren.
Survivors include his loving wife, Marcella; sons, Scott (Mai Anh) Gross, Brad (Joni) Gross, and Rod (Elaine) Gross; daughters, Terri Warden and Roxanne (Randy) Bogs; 16 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Diana.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister.
