Roy A. Riedesel

Roy A. Riedesel, 87, of Orion, IL, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 19, 2022, at his home with his wife and daughter by his side.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, February 24, 2022, at the Orion United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, February 23, 2022, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Orion. Cremation rites will be accorded following the services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to QC Paws or an animal shelter of your choice. The family requests that face masks be worn.

Roy was born March 10, 1934, in Davenport, IA, son of Philip and Lydia (Schneider) Riedesel. He married Barbara Mayerhofer on October 10, 1954, in Wheatland, Iowa. He was a 1952 graduate of Wheatland High School. He graduated from AIC, Davenport, in 1972 with a 4.0 GPA.

Roy farmed in Wheatland until 1974. He then moved to Orion and worked for Coulter Insurance Agency and Orion Telephone Company, retiring in 1999. He also cashiered for Anderson Auctions.

Memberships included Orion United Methodist Church, Polka Club of Iowa Eastern Chapter, Orion Lions Club, and was an election judge for the Bancorp Annual Meeting.

Roy had the highest bowling average (208) in Eastern Iowa in 1961-1962. He and Barb were inducted in the Iowa Polka Hall of Fame in July 2011. He enjoyed dancing, music, playing cards, records, books, family gatherings, and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Barbara; children, Donovon (Gail), Tomah, WI, David (Lizzie), Wheatland, IA, Debbie (Terry) Miller, Orion, and Dennis (Jackie), Andover, IL; 9 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren, and 6 step great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Jessica Flynn.
