Samuel “Sam” A. McKay, 83, of East Moline and Hampton, IL, passed away February 26, 2026, at Hope Creek Care Center.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. prior to the services at the funeral home. Inurnment will be at Moline Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Christ Church Quad Cities.

Sam was born on June 18, 1942, in Moline, IL, the son of Wilbur and Helen (Juedes) McKay. He married Janice Mink on November 2, 1963, in Hampton, IL. He is a veteran, having served in the US Army from 1960 to 1963. Sam was a co-owner and operator of McKay’s Plating in Hampton, IL. He was a member of the Christ Church Quad Cities. He was also a past President of the Willys Overland Jeepster Club and a founding member of Q.C. Vintage Rods. Sam enjoyed living on the Mississippi River. He was an avid sailor and loved sailing in the Caribbean. He was also a member of the Quad City Sailing Club. Sam loved restoring cars with his sons and spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Jan McKay of East Moline, IL; sons, Sean (Debi) McKay and Scott (Christine) McKay of Hampton, IL; daughter-in-law, Paula McKay; grandchildren, Ben (Amber) McKay, Josh (Becky) McKay, Shelby McKay, Samantha McKay, Seth McKay, Kaeden McKay, Jessica, Nick, Mitchell, Jessica, Allie, and Matt; 11 great-grandchildren; 1 brother and 2 sisters.

He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Shad “Kosmo” McKay.
