Sandy Carol Mewes

Sandy Carol Mewes, 78, of East Moline, passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2025 at her residence.

Visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. Moline on Monday, August 4, 2025. Memorial services will be 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Inurnment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in East Moline.

Sandra Carol Mewes was born April 6, 1947, in Moline IL, to Homer and Mary Fox. She graduated from Orion High School. She worked at Desauliners Printing Co for 27-1/2 yrs until they went out of business. She worked at MidAmerican Energy Company for 16-1/2 yrs until retiring in 2012.

Before she met Bob, she often went to visit her friend, Sue, in Gillette, WY, most summers for vacation.

Sandy married Bob Mewes on July 10, 1982. They were married for almost 35 years until he died in March 2017. They enjoyed camping on the Rock River with her sister, Karen, and her husband, Mike Anselmi. They later moved their trailer to Shady Lakes RV Resort, where they camped every summer for 15 years. They made many friends there and rarely missed a weekend in the summer.

She and Bob did a lot of traveling. They went to Las Vegas for their 25th wedding anniversary.

They also rode their motorcycle to Yellowstone Park in 2010, with two other couples, traveling 3400 miles.

They traveled to Gillette, Wyoming, Yellowstone Park, Mt Rushmore. They also took trips to Maine, Mt Washington, Niagara Falls, an Alaskan cruise, Nashville, Michigan, Florida, where they spent a month in Ft Walton Beach in 2016 and a private lake in Mississippi in 2015.

Sandy went to lunch a lot: with her former co-workers, her high school classmates and friends she met at the Two Rivers YMCA where she went several times a week. She also loved the dogs she had over the years and enjoyed walking them every day. She was an avid reader.

She is survived by her beloved son, Darrin Lawson and wife, Jen, and 2 grandchildren, Hunter (Chloe) and Hannah, and brother, Gary Fox (Cheryl Brooks) and many nieces and nephews. She was especially close to her special friend, Mike Anselmi, step-granddaughter, Jaymie Sanders, step great-granddaughter, Mattie Munn, step daughter, JoEllen Smith

She was preceded in death by her husband Bob, sister, Karen Anselmi and her parents, Homer and Mary Fox.
