Scott E. Sampson

Scott E. Sampson, 56, of Orion, IL, died Sunday, July 7, 2013, at his home.

Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 11, 2013, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1001 9th Street, Orion. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Cremation rites have been accorded and inurnment will be at Lutheran Cemetery, Orion. Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church. Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd., Orion, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Scott was born on September 12, 1956, in Moline, IL, the son of Charles M. and Jean (Kelley) Sampson, Sr. He graduated from Orion High School in 1974. He graduated from the University of Illinois in 1978 with a degree in Computer Science and worked as a computer software engineer for NCR in San Diego, CA. He was a Phi Beta Kappa member.

Scott lived in wonder of God's power seen in the beauty of the oceans, the mountains, and all of creation. He loved Fighting Illini sports, investing and long distance walking, and was a familiar sight along the streets of San Diego, and recently of his hometown, Orion. Scott was blessed with a keen intellect, a joy in laughter, and he always had an encouraging word. He had dealt with diabetes since early childhood, always with a fearless determination and an overcoming spirit. He adored his niece and nephews, and had a deep appreciation for the love of family and friends. Scott loved his Lord Jesus, and was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where he enjoyed Bible study and fellowship with friends.
