Sebastian Ramon Contreras

Sebastian Ramon Contreras, 91, of East Moline, IL, passed away Monday, February 21, 2022, at his home.

Funeral mass will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, February 26, 2022, at Christ the King Catholic Church, Moline. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Friday, with a rosary to be recited at 3:30 p.m. at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, East Moline. Memorials may be made to the family.

Sebastian was born on January 20, 1931, in Laredo, Texas, the son of Antonio and Eudosia Hernandez Contreras. He married Rosa Rangel on August 19, 1956. He retired from John Deere. Sebastian was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, East Moline, and later Christ the King Catholic Church. He loved working in his yard and taking care of his dogs. Sebastian enjoyed playing bingo, the casino and traveling. He was an avid boxing fan, loved watching the Chicago Cubs, and was fortunate enough to attend game 4 of the World Series. Above all, Sebastian treasured the time spent with his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Rosa; children, Rosa Cervantes Contreras, Denise (Scott) Contreras Williams, Victoria Nappi, Sergio (Joyce “MJ”) Contreras, Frank (Brenda) Contreras, Berto Contreras, Guadalupe “Peo” (Tonya) Contreras, Diana (Eric) Ackerman, Sebastian (Sean O’Shea) Contreras Jr., Joseph (Trisha) Contreras; 25 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; and many other extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Rosita Contreras; son, Javier “Javi” Contreras; grandson, Christopher Gonzalez; brothers, Placido and Roberto Contreras.
