Shirley Carney

Shirley Ann Carney, 76, of Orion, died on October 17, 2014 at UnityPoint Trinity Rock Island.

A memorial visitation will be from 12:00 - 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 19, 2014 at Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd. 1301 4th Street, Orion. Private family services will be held at a later time. Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorials may be made to the Orion United Methodist Church or to the Western District Library.

Shirley was born on July 31, 1938 in Pontiac, Illinois the daughter of Harold and Elsie Kelch. She married Stanley in August of 1960.

Shirley started her career as a teacher in Chicago Heights then moved to Orion with her husband in 1967. She started substitute teaching in the Orion School District and selling real estate with Mel Foster. Shirley was currently the Director of the Western District Library.

Shirley was a member of the Orion United Methodist Church, Corn Cob Players and had been on the Orion Village Board. She enjoyed both flower and vegetable gardening and most recently took pride in her hosta garden. Shirley also enjoyed reading and hiking out west with her husband. Most of all she loved spending time with her family and watching her grandchildren.
