Born on November 18, 1932, in Waukon, Iowa, Shirley was the cherished daughter of the Rev. Willard O. and Ethel (McLain) Johnson. Her life was a beautiful testament to faith, family, and unconditional love.
On January 11, 1952, Shirley married the love of her life, Walter “Wally” L. Lofgren, in Moline, Illinois. Together they built a home filled with warmth and laughter until Wally’s passing in 2017. Shirley’s devotion to her family was unwavering, and her gentle spirit will live on through her children and grandchildren.
A graduate of Moline High School, Shirley continued her education at Augustana College, Ottawa University, and Black Hawk College. She shared her love of learning as a librarian for the Rock Island-Milan School District, inspiring countless young minds.
Shirley’s faith was central to her life. A lifetime member of First Baptist Church in Moline, she taught Sundy school and sang joyfully in the choir. Her creativity shone through her hobbies – she was an avid reader and found joy in painting, pottery and arts and crafts.
She is survived by her loving sons: Jeff (Sharan) Lofgren of Colorado, Steve (Cindy) Lofgren of Hampton, Chris (Kathy) Lofgren of Silvis and Matt (Maria) Lofgren of Iowa City. Shirley’s legacy lives on in her seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, who will forever cherish her kindness, love and wisdom.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Wally; her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Denise Lofgren; a grandson; and her sisters, Barbara J. Miller and Lucille Penry.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Overlook Village for their compassionate care and support, and Unity Point Hospice care givers.
Shirley’s life was a beautiful melody of love, faith, and family – a song that will echo in the hearts of all who knew her.
