Shirley J. Newburg

Shirley J. Newburg, 98, of East Moline, IL, passed away, June 12, 2026, at Celebrate of Moline.

Funeral services will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, June 19, 2026, at Esterdahl Mortuary and Crematory, Ltd., Moline. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Cremation rites will take place after services. Inurnment will be at 1 p.m. Monday, July 6, 2026, at Rose Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a local food bank or a local pet shelter.

Shirley was born on November 14, 1927, in Oneida, IL, the daughter of Chester and Olive Edna (Frampton) Swanson. She married Raymond L. Newburg in Oneida, IL on July 3, 1947; he preceded her in death in December of 1973.

In her earlier years, she worked for Royal Neighbors of America in Rock Island as a clerk. Shirley then worked in food service for Black Hawk College, QC Downs, and Coolidge Jr. High. She also helped work the concession stands at the Green Valley sports complex when it first opened and donated to the Green Valley park benches fund. Shirley was a babysitter for a number of children and helped the elderly with their appointments, cleaning, and shopping.

Shirley enjoyed reading, riding Ferris wheels, watching Westerns and Heat of the Night, and she was a Celtics (Larry Bird) and Bulls fan.

Survivors include her sons, Larry Newburg, Danny Newburg, and Randy (Michelle) Newburg; grandchildren, Natalie, Nicholas, Keri, Brandi, Sheli, Stacy Lynn, and Mitchell; 4 great-grandchildren; last surviving brother, David Swanson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond; daughter, Rebecca Newburg; brothers, Rex, Norman, Marion, Neale, and Larry; sister, Peggy.
