Shirley R. Van Ryn, 97, of Moline, passed away on May 21, 2026, at Allure of Quad Cities in Moline, surrounded by family.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday May 27, 2026, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1307 17th Avenue, Moline, IL. Visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass at the St. Damien Center at the church. Burial will be at St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery, Atkinson. Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or Heartland Hospice.
Shirley was born on July 7, 1928, in Geneseo, IL, the daughter of Raymond and Alma (Franzman) Matteson. She married Anthony Joseph Van Ryn on June 27, 1950, in Piggott, Arkansas. He preceded her in death on March 4, 2007. Shirley had worked as a salesclerk for the downtown Moline location of Montgomery Ward. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Family and friends were very important to Shirley. Her coffee was always on and baked goods were served. She enjoyed baking, sewing, crafting and tending her flower garden. She also was always making quilted wall hangings and teddy bear blankets for babies.
She is survived by her brothers-in-law, Virgil Larson of California, and David Windy of Geneseo; several nieces & nephews and great nieces & great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings, Mary (Leo) Whittington, Charles (Elisabeth) Matteson, Dorothy (Albert) Jodts, Marjorie (William) Reschke, Ruth Windy, Pauline Larson; and sisters-in-laws, Rita (Wesley) Tucker and Marjorie (William) Wirth.
