Stanley Earle Nelson, age 81, of Rock Island, died Saturday, September 13, 2008 at Rock Island Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Rock Island.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 17, 2008, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Avenue, Moline. Visitation is from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m prior to the service. Burial is in New Windsor Cemetery. Memorials may be made to New Windsor Cemetery Association.
Stan was born November 24, 1926 in Galesburg, the son of Earle C. and Beulah M. (Thomas) Nelson. He married Helen Sundquist.
Stan graduated from New Windsor High School. He attended the Navy V-12 Program at Notre Dame University, the Naval Academy Prep School, Iowa State University, Lyons Township Junior College, Knox College and Northwestern University's Traffic Institute. .Stan was employed as a sergeant for the State Police, and later as a safety manager for Burlington Truck Line, and he retired as manager for Willett Truck Line, Chicago. He was a navy veteran of World War II.
