Stanley Strejc

Stanley Strejc, 92, of Berwyn, IL, passed away, Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at Amber Ridge Assisted Living, Moline, IL.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, November 6, 2021, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline, IL.  Inurnment will be at St. John’s Cemetery, Arlington Heights, IL.  Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children.

Stanley was born on August 12, 1929, in Žinkovy, Czech Republic, the son of Ferdinand Strejc and Marie Tolarova.  He married his forever sweetheart Iwona Jarosiewicz-Dmitruk on April 15, 1975, in Berwyn, IL.  He worked for United Airlines for 32 years as a cargo manager.  Stanley and Iwona lived in their Berwyn home on Scoville Avenue for 44 years.  They were members of St. Mary of Celle Catholic Church in Berwyn.  Stanley was an animal lover and member of the Brookfield Zoo - Chicago Zoological Society for many years.  Stanley invested much of his time into his cherished cats, providing a home and a tremendous amount of love to 14 cats over the years.  Stanley was an avid baker best known for his Christmas cookies with homemade currant jam.  A trained chef, he loved to cook, and many will reminisce about his homemade goulash and dumplings. Also an expert gardener, he will be remembered for his red geraniums and vegetable garden.   He enjoyed traveling, fishing, hunting, mushroom hunting, and being outdoors.

Survivors include his wife, daughter-in-law, Eva Balawander-Dmitruk, Pingree Grove, IL; grandchildren, Olivia (Andrew) McClarity, Moline, Arthur (Ashleigh) Dmitruk, Pingree Grove, IL; great grandchildren, Ailie and Owen McClarity, Scarlett and Chandler Dmitruk; brothers, Jan Strejc and Vojtěch Strejc; beloved cat, Kitty; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, Mark Arthur Dmitruk; sister, Růžena and brothers, Ferdinand, Jaroslav, and Jiří.
