Starla Dusenberry Schmidt, 54, of Aledo, IL, died Monday, December 7, 2015, in Preemption Township, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, December 11, 2015, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline, IL. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, December 10, 2015, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Edgington Cemetery. Memorials may be made to a trust fund for her granddaughters' educational fund or to continued care for her sister's cancer treatments.

Starla was born on November 9, 1961, in Moline, IL, the daughter of Ray and Shirley Lynch Matthews. She married DeWayne Dusenberry on November 13, 1981, in Rock Island, IL, and later married Lee Schmidt on May 15, 2015, in Rock Island. Starla worked the majority of her life advocating and caring for individuals with special needs through New Choices in Muscatine and the Muscatine Community School District. Previously, she worked as an administrative assistant to the General at the Rock Island Arsenal.

Starla was a member of Calvary Church in Muscatine. She enjoyed all types of music, especially gospel and piano. More than anything, Starla loved country living and spending time with her family, especially her granddaughters.

Survivors include her loving husband, Lee; children, Rachael (Alex) Ortega, and their children, Zoey and Lydia, Rock Island, IL, and Zach Dusenberry, Rock Island, IL; mother, Shirley Matthews, Edgington, IL; sister, Michelle (Dan) Nixon, Davenport, IA; father-in-law, Bernard Schmidt, Aledo, IL; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father.
