Steven J. Spirewka, 53, of Moline, passed away Monday, November 7, 2022, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Cremation rites will be accorded, and memorial visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 13, 2022, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline, with a celebration of life gathering to follow from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Riverfront Grille, 4619 34th St, Rock Island, IL. Steve was born on January 29, 1969, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the son of Thomas and Susan (Lobotzke) Spirewka. He married Katherine “Kate” Schlindwein on June 26, 1993, in Moline. Steve started his career as a union carpenter. He moved on to a supervisory position in environmental services for Moline area hospitals and was most recently employed as a custodian at Wilson Middle School in Moline.

Steve was a member of the Moline School District Union AFSCME Local 672. He enjoyed fishing, grilling, music, carpentry and discussing politics. Steve was an avid sports enthusiast who remained loyal to his Wisconsin-based teams – the Green Bay Packers, (Steve was part- owner of the franchise), Wisconsin Badgers, Milwaukee Bucks and Milwaukee Brewers. Steve was a devoted husband and father who loved his family greatly. Steve spread kindness and joy wherever he went. All who knew him were better for it.

Steve is survived by his wife, Kate; son, Cadyn Spirewka; mother, Susan Synowicz, Moline; brother, Kenneth T. (Jennifer) Spirewka, Milwaukee; mother-in-law, Susan Grchan, Moline; father-in-law, Michael Schlindwein, Moline, sister-in-law, Kimberly (Noah) Babcock, Sherrard; brother-in-law, Mark (Patty) Grchan, East Moline, sister-in-law, Aimee (Pat) Roberts, Moline; nieces and nephews, Avery, Ellery, Garrek, Elias, Ronnie, Seth, Elijah, and Mila; aunt, Kay (James) Scheurell, Alvin, WI, uncle James (Kris) Lobotzke, Muskego, WI; and many cousins and friends.

Steve was preceded in death by his father; beloved stepfather, Dwight Synowicz, cherished father-in-law, Don Grchan and grandparents.
