Sydney S. Dull, Jr., 82, of Moline, IL, died Monday, September 22, 2014, at Genesis Medical Center - Silvis Campus, Silvis, IL.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 27, 2014, at Union Congregational Church, 1811 53rd Street, Moline. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Per his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Union Congregational Church in Moline, where he was a member.
Sydney was born on January 26, 1932, in Kansas City, MO, the son of Sydney S. and Viola J. Minor Dull, Sr.
He married Phyllis J. Garner on June 20, 1954, in Parkville, MO. Sydney was a United States Army veteran.
Syd began his writing career when he was hired in 1956 by Deere and Company's agricultural magazine, The Furrow. The Furrow is the oldest continually published agricultural magazine in the world, beginning in 1895. Syd was eventually assigned to cover all of Canada. He travelled throughout Canada, becoming an expert on crops raised in Canada as well as challenges farmers faced there. His knowledge was often sought out as he was seen as an expert on Canadian farming. He retired from this position in 1986, but his writing lives on.
Syd loved house boating on the Mississippi and watching migrating birds. He also loved working at the homestead land in Kansas as a young man.

He was preceded in death by his son, Wayne; sister, Shirley; brother-in-law, Jack.
