Thomas A. Brooks, 84, of Port Byron, went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 12, 2011, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.
Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Monday, August 15, 2011 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601-38th Ave., Moline, with a visitation from 1:30 until service time. Burial is at Moline Memorial Park with military honors conducted by Moline American Legion Post #246. Memorials may be made to Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.
Thomas was born March 19, 1927 in Hackleburg, Alabama, the son of Claude S. and Eva Dexter Brooks. He graduated as the valedictorian and president of his class at Marion County High School. He attended Jack Lee Mortuary School in Alabama and went on to become a WWII veteran, serving with the Marines as military police on a Navy ship.
Thomas began his career as a laborer at John Deere Plow Planter Works, Moline, on May 19, 1949 and retired on September 19, 1980 as divisional superintendent after 34 years of service. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and entertaining friends. His friends were also his family. He cherished his relationship with the Lord. Thomas always said, "If you can't say something good about somebody, don't say anything at all."
