Thomas Richard "Dick" Sullivan

Thomas Richard "Dick" Sullivan, 94, of Moline, IL, passed away at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, IA, on Monday, September 17, 2012.
Mr. Sullivan has been entrusted to the care of Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 28, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior at the funeral home. Burial will be at the National Cemetery at Rock Island Arsenal.
Dick was born on May 4, 1918, in Wadena, MN, the son of William and Evangeline Sullivan. Following high school, he joined the Navy and proudly served his country during World War II and again in Korea. He often reminisced about his military career, especially his participation in the nuclear tests performed by the United States at Bikini Atoll in 1946.
Following the death of his wife, Annette (Mathews) Sullivan, in Dallas, TX, he moved to Rock Island, IL, where he was a self-employed contractor, painter and artist. He married Ruth (Bast) Sullivan on July 10, 1974 and they resided in Solon, IA, Sherrard, IL, and most recently in Moline. His beloved Ruth passed away on November 26, 2009. He was also preceded in death by his seven siblings and three stepchildren.
Dick is survived by two sons, Mike, Dallas, TX and Tim (Rosa), Austin, TX, and granddaughter, Caitlin Sullivan, Dallas, TX. Survivors also include stepchildren, Sandra (Robert) Atherton of Rock Island, Mack (Sandy) Sullivan of Moline, Kathy (Grant) Andersen of Moline, Debbie (Brian) Mayer of Gresham, OR, Pam (Kevin) Morter of Naples, FL, eighteen grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren and great-great -grandchildren.
