Velma May Burke, 80, of East Moline, passed away January 29, 2026, at MercyOne Genesis Medical Center in Silvis.
Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday February 4, 2026, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday February 5, 2026, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens.
Velma was born on February 28, 1945, in Livonia, Missouri, the daughter of Guy Bailey Amos and Daisy Mae Amos. As the youngest child in her family, she grew up quickly when she lost her mother at 8 years old, taking on all of the household tasks and chores. She married Edward Burke on May 15, 1965, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Moline. She was previously employed at Lusk Candy Company. Velma was a loving and devoted homemaker as well as talented seamstress. She enjoyed quilting, crafting and sewing. She used her creative talents to inspire her family and other young minds as a Den Mother for Cub Scouts when her children were younger.
Survivors include her husband, Ed; children, Cindy (Robert Shadden) Burke of Rock Island, Damian (Natalie) Burke of Mooresville, NC; grandchildren, Matthew and Elizabth Burke.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Lewis, Guymel, Claude, Ellen, Robert.
