Verna F. Edwards Strandlund

Verna Frances Edwards Strandlund, 84, of East Moline, passed away on Sunday, March 26, 2023, at her home.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Friday, March 31, 2023, at Homewood Church, 3303 60th Street, Moline.  Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, March 30, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline.  Cremation will follow services and private family inurnment will be at Fancy Creek Cemetery in Williamsville, Illinois at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church food pantry.

Verna was born on January 15, 1939, in Springfield, Illinois the daughter of A. Logan and Fannie C. (Claypool) Rhodes. After high school, she attended Illinois State University in Normal. Verna married Robert A. Edwards on June 23, 1958, at Christian Church in Williamsville, Illinois. He preceded her in death on July 5, 2002. She later married Warren T. Strandlund on June 13, 2004 at Homewood Church in Moline. He preceded her in death on December 26, 2022. She was employed as a teacher’s aide with both the Moline and East Moline School Districts. Verna’s church was her life and she and her first husband were founding members of Homewood Evangelical Free Church, where she assisted with the food pantry for 25 years and was head of the funeral dinners for 10 years.

Survivors include her son, Kenneth C. Edwards, Coal Valley; grandchildren, Cody (Rachel) Edwards, Camdenton, Missouri, Samantha Edwards, Milan; great grandson, Gus Edwards; sister, Marjorie Drea, Taylorville, IL; sister-in-law, Loraine Rhodes, Williamsville, IL; Warren’s children and their families, Mikel (Lynne) Strandlund, Moline, Pamela (John) Crowe, Bettendorf, Paula (Martin) Newell, Rock Island; and the adopted Allen family.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Roberta Edwards; husbands; and brother, Charles.
