Verna R. Whiting, 83, of Milan, IL, died Monday, May 27, 2013, at Rosewood Care Center, Moline, IL.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 30, 2013, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline, IL. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at National Cemetery at Rock Island Arsenal. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association or to Genesis Hospice.
Verna was born on May 20, 1930, in Rapids City, IL, the daughter of Ervey and Gertrude (Hart) Downing. She married Thomas B. Whiting on December 22, 1946, in Moline, IL, and he preceded her in death on March 18, 2011. For 17 years, she worked as an OB Tech for the former Moline Public Hospital, retiring in 1980. Verna enjoyed crocheting, cooking her gourmet meals for friends and family, and the years she spent in Florida with her husband, Tom.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and 12 siblings.
