Violet was born on February 4, 1922, in Moline, IL, the beloved and only child of Anna Maria Johannson Lundquist and Charles Bror Lundquist. Both of her parents immigrated to the USA from Sweden and she was very proud of her Swedish heritage.

Violet was of the Lutheran faith and was confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church in Moline, IL. She was a graduate of Moline High School.

There are no services or visitation. Burial of cremains at Moline Memorial Park Cemetery in Moline, IL, will be private. In lieu of flowers or statuary, the family requests donations to be made to Living Lands and Waters at either livinglandsandwaters.org or by mail to Living Lands and Waters, 17624 Route 84 North, East Moline, IL, 61244. Violet was united in marriage on August 8, 1942, in Lancaster, MO, to James William "Smitty" Smith. He preceded her in death on March 16, 1996. She had worked for various local families as a nanny and a housekeeper before her marriage.

She was an Iowa Hawkeye and Chicago Cubs fan. She loved watching the birds outside her window, loved watching the Mighty Mississippi River for endless hours, and had a lifelong love of reading. She was a wonderful cook and always made the best peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

Survivors include her beloved children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, Jerry (Pam) Smith and Jean (Burdette) Bounds, all of Moline; John Smith (deceased, May 17, 1968); grandchildren, Charles Culley Smith (Marianne Siess), Madison, WI; Michelle (Josh) Talbot, Rock Island, and Rachael Bounds, Moline; two great grandchildren, Ryder and Hadley Talbot, Rock Island.

The family wishes to thank all of the wonderful staff at Heartland Health Care Center for the excellent care and love they gave her and for the kindness and caring they gave to the family. The family also gives a very special thank you to her beloved roommate at Heartland, Betty Olson, for loving her and watching over her the past 15 months.
