Vivian Hammerberg

Vivian Holmes Hammerberg, 93, of Moline, IL, died Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at Illini Restorative Care, Silvis, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation one hour prior to the service on Monday, July 7, 2014, at First Lutheran Church, 1230 5th Avenue, Moline. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, July 6, 2014, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. Burial will be at Moline Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church, Intouch Adult Day Care Center, or to Augustana College.

Vivian was born on December 5, 1920, in Wataga, IL, the daughter of Arthur and Alfreida J. Peterson Holmes. She married Robert E. Hammerberg on October 4, 1952, at the Chapel at Augustana College, and he preceded her in death on March 22, 1989.

Vivian attended Knox College and later, in 1941, received her Bachelor Degree in Accounting from Augustana College, where she made many life-long friends. She later became an executive secretary to Deere Estate. Vivian went on to become a homemaker for many years. She finished her career as a trust officer at Moline National Bank.

Vivian was a longtime member of First Lutheran Church and a volunteer and a member of the Auxiliary at Trinity Medical Center. She was a former Girl Scout Leader and a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan.

She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Sue Quick; step son, Rick Hammerberg; siblings, Kenneth Holmes, Vincent Holmes, DeWayne Holmes, and Marie Thomas.
