Wilfred "Bill" F. Harris

Wilfred "Bill" F. Harris, 87, of Rock Island, IL, died Sunday, August 10, 2014.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, August 18, 2014, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline, IL. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, August 17, 2014, at the funeral home. Burial will be at National Cemetery at Rock Island Arsenal where military honors will be conducted by Moline American Legion Post 246. Memorials may be made to Center for Youth & Family Solutions, 4703 44th Street, Rock Island, or to a charity of your choice.
Bill was born on June 7, 1927, in Moline, IL, the son of L. Steven and Dorothy G. Hood Harris. He married Marilyn Bowman who died in 1991. He later married Jackie O'Melia Harris in 1997 in Rock Island. Bill worked for Montgomery Elevator for 47 years, retiring as plant superintendent in May of 1993. He was a WWII Army Air Corps. veteran. While serving in the Philippines, he tested the meteorological effects caused by the atomic bomb.
Bill was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Rock Island and loved singing in the church choir and playing in the Bell Choir. He was also a member of the Moline American Legion Post # 246 and the Viking Club in Moline. Bill was a passionate golfer and also enjoyed dancing, traveling, bowling, and playing pool. He especially loved his Tuesday nights at O'Melia's with his beautiful Jackie.

He was preceded in death by his 2 grandsons, Sean and Corey Saar; 2 brothers, Richard and David Harris; step son, Jim O'Melia; and great grandchild, Devon Hayes.
