William H. Forslund, 96, formerly of Moline, passed away at Martin Health Center in Bloomington, Illinois, on Sunday, June 30, 2019.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 8, 2019, at First Covenant Church, 3303 41st Str., Moline. Visitation will be 9:30 to 11 a.m. prior to service at the church. Burial will be at the National Cemetery at the Rock Island Arsenal. Memorials may be made to First Covenant Church where he was a member.
William was born on February 26, 1923, in Moline, the son of Eric G. and Gunhild (Flesberg) Forslund. He attended Moline public schools. William served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean Wars. Last year he was able to go on an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., with his son-in-law. He married Marilyn E. Larson on October 17, 1953, in Moline. She preceded him in death on May 26, 2017. Bill was a letter carrier for the United States Post Office for 30 years, retiring in 1984. He was a kind, generous man and a patient, loving caregiver to his wife.
Survivors include his daughter, Lee Ann (David) Held, Normal, grandchildren; Andrew (Marissa) Held, Normal; Allison (Matt) Coates, Normal, great grandchildren, Inara Held and Ethan Coates, Normal; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers, Viven and Carl Forslund, and sisters, Lorraine Armstrong, Jane Seymour, and Virginia O’Brien.
