William L. Wagoner, 87, of Sherrard, IL, died Monday, December 29, 2014, at Silver Cross Nursing Center of Friendship Manor, Rock Island, IL.
Funeral services will conducted by Rev. Beth Hamilton of the Swedona Lutheran Church and Rev. Brian Romanowski at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 5, 2015, at Swedona Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from 2:30 to 6 p.m. Sunday, January 4, 2015, with a Masonic Service conducted by the Rio Lodge 685 AF + AM at 2 p.m. at Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd., Orion. Burial will be at Swedona Lutheran Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the George Norris American Legion Post 484 of New Windsor. In lieu of flowers, Bill asked that memorials may be made to Swedona Lutheran Church or to Shriner's Children's Hospital.
William was born on November 17, 1927, in Keithsburg, IL, the son of William Joseph and Helen Lorraine Dodson Wagner. He married Martha Marie Bell on July 20, 1947, in Yuma, AZ, and she preceded him in death on February 26, 1990. He later married Sharon Duncan Romanowski on August 4, 1990, in Cambridge, IL. William farmed in the Swedona area from 1948 thru 2006.
William was a veteran, having served the United States Navy from December of 1945 to October 18, 1947. He was a former member of the Orion American Legion Post 255, a member of the former Masonic Lodge 502 AF + AM in Woodhull, a current member of the Rio Masonic Lodge 685 AF + AM, and a Past Master of New Windsor Lodge 367. He was a member of the Scottish Rite and Coordinate Bodies Valley of Moline 1014 AF + AM. William was also a member of OES Galesburg #235.
William was also a member of the Sherrard School Board for 13 years, a member of Swedona Lutheran Church and it's Board, and a trustee of Richland Grove Township from 1973 - 2009.
