Willis G. Ray

Willis G. Ray, 59, of Coal Valley, passed away Tuesday June 6, 2023, as the result of an automobile accident.

Graveside services will be held Noon Monday June 12, 2023, at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield, with military honors to be conducted. Memorials may be made to the family. Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., is assisting the family.

Willis was born on August 20, 1963, in Springfield, Illinois, the son of Gene and Patty Smith. He was a U.S. Veteran, having served in the Marine Corps. He was employed as a bricklayer and was a member of the Masonry Union Local 8. Willis enjoyed fishing, gardening and cookouts. He loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandkids.

Survivors include mother, Patty (Mike) Ozimok; children, Joshua Ray, Andrew Ray, Megan Knepp, Kyle Ray; significant other, Karen Davis; siblings, Linda Cleghorn, Jack (Iona) Ray, Margaret (Scott) Lindsay, Eddie Ray, Charlett (Jim) Fortner; half siblings, Peggy Cook, Roger Smith, Gene Smith.

He was preceded in death by his father.
