Charles “Chuck” Tuttle, 90, of Orion, IL went to be with the Lord on his 90th birthday, Thursday, October 07, 2021, at Hammond-Henry Hospital Long Term Care Living Center in Geneseo, IL.

Cremation rites will be accorded.  Memorial Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, October 23, 2021, at Osco Community Church, Osco, IL.  Visitation will be 9:30-11:00 a.m. Saturday at the church.  Private family burial will be at Western Township Cemetery, Orion.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Osco Community Church.  Esterdahl Mortuary Orion is assisting the family.

Chuck was born on October 7, 1931, in Cambridge Springs, PA, the son of Charles F. and Velma (Zahn) Tuttle.  He graduated from Cambridge Springs High School where he played football, basketball, and baseball.  He then attended Huntington College, Huntington, IN for two years where he also played baseball.  It was here that Chuck met his future wife, Vera Schuneman of Manlius, IL.  They were united in marriage on October 19, 1952, at the United Brethren Church in Manlius, IL.  She preceded him in death on January 12, 2020.

A few weeks after their wedding, Chuck was drafted into the United States Army in which he served from 1952 to 1954 during the Korean War.  After his discharge, he held different jobs over the next few years culminating in his graduation in 1959 from Illinois State University, Normal, IL with a degree in education.  He was then employed with the Orion, IL school district as a physical education teacher and coach from 1959 until his retirement in 1988.

Chuck was a member of several education and community organizations and was a member of the Osco Community Church for over 45 years serving as a trustee and usher.  He played fast pitch softball for a number of years while in his thirties and at age 61 was still playing slow pitch softball.  He like to play golf, hunt, fish, and was a lifelong fan of both the Pittsburgh Pirates and Pittsburgh Steelers.  He especially enjoyed watching his sons and grandchildren participate in sports and other activities.

Chuck is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Scott and Robin Tuttle of Orion, Owen and Theresa Tuttle of Hampshire, IL; three granddaughters, Jessica (Jeremy) Flowers of Bourbonnais, IL, Susan (Bryant) Schaffer of Coconut Creek, FL, Ashton (Levi) Dyer of Windsor, CO; three grandsons, Michael (Hannah) Tuttle of Zionsville, IN, Jacob Tuttle of Hampshire, IL, Luke Tuttle of Indianapolis, IN; sister, Kathleen Walton of Taylors, SC; two sisters-in-law, Berdina Schuneman of Chillicothe, IL and Polly Lickhart of Manlius, IL; 12 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 67 years, Vera; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
