Cynthia Soliz Gomez

April 4, 1957 — September 18, 2021

Cynthia “Ms. Cindy” Soliz Gomez, 64, of Moline, passed away Saturday, September 18, 2021, at UnityPoint Trinity Rock Island.

Cynthia was born on April 4, 1957, in Moline, the daughter of Tanilo Lopez and Patricia (Quinones) Soliz.  She was a mother, grandma, sister, aunt, and cousin.  She was a giving, caring, loving, vibrant, knowledgeable, religious, professional, artistic, creative, and festive person.  Cindy graduated from Moline High School in 1975.  Cindy was also a childcare mentor and trainer.  She received her associate’s degree from Black Hawk College and later received her master’s degree from Western Illinois University. She was previously employed at Rainbow Skip-A-Long Daycare Centers as the lead teacher and program coordinator, Aldridge Early Learning Center as a curriculum site manager and later at Black Hawk Area Special Education School District as a special education paraprofessional. She was employed in child development through Skip-A-Long HCCN as a state licensed home daycare provider of Give A Smile Home Daycare in Moline.  Cindy was a former head start teacher preparing to start a Head Start Children’s Program in 2021.  She had received her early childhood credentialed level 4, infants/toddlers family child care credentialed level 2, and school age/youth development credentialed level 4.  She was a member of the SAL Family Community Services. Cindy attained business administration scale for family childcare accelerate gateway quality Level Silver Star in the State of Illinois. She was a treasurer for the Hero Street Committee, a daycare transporter, and worked concessions at the former Mark of the Quad Cities.

Cindy was a former member of the Apostolic Assembly and a current member of The Sanctuary Church Quad Cities.  She was a Christian activist who participated in street ministry, women’s prayer group, bible study home groups, and music department where she played piano, auto harp and sang. She was a child/youth group Sunday school teacher and leader.  Cindy was involved in children’s ministry and music choir director.  She was involved in disaster assistance programs, church fundraisers, car washes, plays, talent shows, vacation bible school, youth camp, retreats, food sales, and Christmas programs.

Cindy was helpful as an event planner and coordinator for church, childcare, family and friends, and in her community.  She was involved in the Festival of Trees Parade, graduations, fieldtrips, Christmas programs, theatre plays, musicals, achievement award ceremonies, VIVA Quad Cities, Hero Street U.S.A fundraisers, Moonlight Parade, and Our Lady of Guadalupe.  She loved spending time and attending home, school, church, work, family, and community events. Above all, her grandchildren were her whole world. She enjoyed being with her animals, especially her cats.  She liked to play, listen, and dance to music such as praise, oldies and mariachi.  She also loved traveling, entertainment, cooking and catering, going on vacations and doing arts and crafts. She lived as a testimony to her faith in God and as a mother to all she encountered.

Survivors include her daughters, Brandi (Memo) Soliz Troche, Bettendorf, and Marisa Gomez, Moline; grandchildren, Ysenia, Eliana, Mateo, Andres, Issiah, and Zacharias.; siblings, Bruce (Yvette) Soliz, Stuart (Teresa) Soliz, and Penny (Steve) Doyle.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Tanilo and Patricia Quinones-Soliz, brother, John, and her beloved son, Nathan, who passed on August 28, 2021.

Funeral services to honor Cindy and her son Nathan will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 25, 2021, at The Sanctuary Quad Cities, 1501 John Deere Pkwy, Silvis.  Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Friday, September 24, 2021, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline.  Inurnment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, East Moline, at a later date.  Memorials may be made to the family.  The family asks that those who plan to attend the visitation and service wear a mask.
