Jack Dahlstrom

December 8, 1925 — October 9, 2020

Jack Elwood Dahlstrom, 94, of East Moline, formerly of Carbon Cliff, passed away, Friday, October 09, 2020, at his home.

Private memorial services will be held, and inurnment will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #246.  Memorials may be made to the Bi-State Tennis Association or the Alzheimer’s Association.  Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., is assisting the family.

Jack was born on December 8, 1925, in Moline, the son of Regis and Ella (Sheley) Dahlstrom.  He began working at Minneapolis Moline as a shipping manager where he met his future wife.  He married Rose Ann Carlson on February 19, 1949, in Moline and she preceded him in death on July 7, 2020.  He then went on to work at John Deere working nights in the loading dock.  He later worked days as a train engineer and retired from DriLine in 1988, after 32 years.

Jack was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, Moline.  He loved to dance, have parties, boating, and travel with his wife.  He was an avid tennis player and was active in several other sports.  When he was younger, he played for the Moline Mohawks football team and won the golden glove in boxing and began his boxing career in the Navy.  He also coached his children’s sports activities when he was younger. Jack enjoyed wintering in Florida and Texas.  He was also a part of the Catfish Jazz Society and played the saxophone and other instruments.

Survivors include his children, Lynn (Roger) Geerts, East Moline, Kim (Debra Carter) Dahlstrom, Wilton, IA, Craig (Debra Roth) Dahlstrom, Moline, Lori Dahlstrom, Moline, Brian (Polly) Dahlstrom, Sherrard; son-in-law, Tom Adams, Rock Island; 11 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, stepfather, Ray Newkirk; daughter, Cindy Adams, granddaughter, Lisa Dhooge; and brothers, Jack Newkirk, Regis Dahlstrom, and Phil Newkirk.
