Jesse R. McFarland of Moline, Ill., died on Sept. 9, 2022, at the age of 97.
Jesse was born on June 22, 1925, in Newton, Ill., to William and Bertha McFarland. He graduated from Newton Community High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II as a radio operator. After leaving the Navy, he spent his entire career with International Harvester and Navistar as a general foreman. He had the unique good fortune to be retired longer than he worked.
In retirement, Jesse was an avid reader of anything nonfiction. He was fiercely independent and managed to stay in his own home up until his death.
Survivors include a daughter, Melodie (Michael) Beedlow of Mesa, Ariz.; two sons, Jeffrey (Caroline Byrne) McFarland of Rapid City, Ill., and Kevin (Julie) McFarland of Naples, Fla.; and a grandson, Ryan Anderson of Denver, Colo.
Jesse was preceded in death by his parents and his seven siblings.
