Kara N. Matzen

Kara N. Matzen, 58, of Orion, passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2022, at Genesis East Medical Center, Davenport, after a courageous battle with breast cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 4, 2022, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline. Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m., Friday at the funeral home in Moline. Burial will be at Western Township Cemetery, Orion. Memorials may be made to her family.

Kara was born on May 5, 1964, in Moline, the daughter of Bob and Beth (Parrish) Lee. Kara graduated from Orion High School where she played volleyball, softball, ran track, and was a cheerleader. She married her high school sweetheart, Mike Matzen, on August 16, 1986, in Orion. She was employed as a secretary at SVEA Mutual Insurance Company in Orion for the past 27 years. Kara loved her family and friends fiercely. She never met a stranger and was an avid sports fan. Her favorites were the Orion Chargers and Iowa Hawkeyes. She had great energy while playing volleyball and loved her jazzercise. She never missed a single activity involving her children, nieces, and nephews. You always knew she would be there yelling the loudest for her people.

Survivors include her husband, Mike; children, Kramer Matzen, Orion, Tori (Garrett) Hohl, Coal Valley; granddaughter, Gianna Hohl and another grandchild expected in December; mother, Beth Lee, Orion; siblings, Nikki (Gordon) Rehn, Davenport, Jessi (Jeff) Williams, Coal Valley, Mitch (Susan) Lee, Coal Valley; mother and father in law, Darrell and Florien Matzen, Coal Valley; sister in law, Bonnie Matzen, Orion; niece, Ashton Lee, Minnesota; nephews, Cody Williams, Bettendorf, Tanner Williams, Rock Island, Logan Lee, Iowa City.

She was preceded in death by her father, Bob Lee; niece, Madison Lee; and several grandparents.

She would like to give a special thank you to the nurses at Genesis Illini Infusion Center, Genesis East Oncology floor, Dr. Porubcin and his staff for their amazing care over the last 3 years.
