Smith “Smitty” Etley Hicks, 81, of Moline passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2022, at his residence.

A graveside service will be 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 5, 2022 at the Davenport Memorial Park Mausoleum.  Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline is assisting the family.

Smitty was born on October 18, 1940, in Lebanon, Missouri, the son of Roy Etley and Marie Lucile Harrell Hicks.  He married Jeanette K. Archer on October 17, 1980, in Davenport, Iowa and she preceded him in death on November 29, 2021.

Smitty and his wife managed various apartment complexes in both Colorado and the Quad Cities area.  In his early years he enjoyed leather working and making covers for bibles.  Above all was his love for his wife and family.

He is survived by his children; Mark (Sally) Hicks of Des Moines, Iowa, Karen (Bill) Howard of Newton, Iowa, and Laurie Hicks of Des Moines Donna Hicks of Newton Iowa; step son, Timothy “Tim” (Diana) Peterson of Colorado Springs; grandchildren Amberly Howard of Newton Iowa, Crystal (Robert) Williams of Newton Iowa, Emily Hicks of Des Moines Iowa, Aaron Hicks of Des Moines Iowa, Marty Sites of Newton Iowa, Jessie Eugene Peterson of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Jason Allen (Pamela Wantuch) Peterson of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Justin James (Elizabeth) Peterson of Littleton, Colorado and great grandchildren: Matthew Howard of Newton Iowa, Liam Williams of Newton Iowa, Jonah Williams of Newton Iowa, Hudson White of Newton Iowa, Jackson and Ellis Dorchester of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Liam and Alex Peterson of Littleton, Colorado, also a brother, Homer Hicks.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, son, Michael W. Hicks and a stepson, Terry
