Theodore G. “Theo” Spurgetis, 67, of Moline, passed away Sunday, June 12, 2022, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics as the result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident in 2018.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 18, 2022, at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Rock Island and will be livestreamed on St. George Greek Orthodox Church Facebook page. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Friday, June 17, 2022, with a Trisagion Service at 6:30 p.m., at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery. Memorials may be made to National Motorcycle Safety Fund or St. George Greek Orthodox Church.
Theo was born on May 31, 1955, in Davenport, the son of George T. and Estelle G. (Smirles) Spurgetis. Theo was previously employed at George’s Classic Cleaners in Moline and in IT as an independent contractor. He was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church. He enjoyed playing golf, basketball and baseball. Theo also loved riding his motorcycle and bicycle.
Survivors include his sisters, Mary Kay (Steve) Eckert, Moline, Marguerite (Dr. Richard) Nelson, Moline; niece, Georgena (Ben) Barnes and their children George, Henry and Estelle Barnes of Johnston, IA; nephew, Jayme (Sara) Eckert and their children Brecken Miller and Archer Eckert of Moline; uncles, Jim Spurgetis, Rock Island, Nick (Frances) Spurgetis, Moline; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Gena Spurgetis.
The family would like to thank River Crossing of Moline for the care shown to Theo; and also to the doctors, nurses and staff at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for the exceptional care and compassion shown to our brother and his family.
