Virgil Everett Curry, 80, of Milan, went to his Heavenly home and entered eternal life on Tuesday May 2, 2023, at UnityPoint Health Trinity Rock Island.

Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 4107 21st Ave, Moline. Inurnment will be at the Rock Island National Cemetery with military honors conducted by the American Legion Post #246.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church.

Virgil was born on May 29, 1942, in Bowling Township, the son of Tony and Anna (Mueller) Curry. He was baptized as an infant into God’s family at Zion Lutheran Church in Taylor Ridge. He was also confirmed into adult membership during 8th grade. Virgil was a 1960 graduate of Sherrard High School. Virgil was a U.S. Veteran, having served with the Navy during the Vietnam War for seven years and he always received exemplary reviews from his next in command. He was also the first Vietnam Veteran to attend the Honor Flight of the Quad Cities to Washington D.C. in 2016. He worked at John Deere Harvester as a parts piece worker, retiring in 2008. Virgil was a member of the Milan Rifle Club. He enjoyed being outdoors, bird watching, hunting, camping and gardening. He loved fishing in the Boundary Waters and the Great Lakes. Virgil was a kind man who got along with everyone, and he had an enormous love of family. He will be dearly missed.

Survivors include sisters, Iretta (Charles) Enstrom, Mesa, Arizona, Doris (Allen) Stegemann, Moline; nieces and nephew, Kris (Rick) Lively, Moline, Renée Pinson, Bloomington, Keri Jung, Phoenix, Arizona, Brad (Donna) Stegemann, West Branch, Michigan; numerous great nieces and great nephews.

He was preceded in death by parents and niece, Kay Eileen Enstrom.
